Energy-efficient commercial kitchen equipment can reduce operating costs, but a higher purchase price does not automatically pay for itself. Compare suitable models under equivalent operating conditions and use your local utility rates.

Where to compare energy use
Review refrigeration, cooking, dishwashing and ventilation as part of the kitchen’s actual workload. Compare usable capacity, temperature, production output, idle time and the applicable test method. Ventilation controls must maintain the required capture and safety performance.
Calculate annual operating costs correctly
- If consumption is stated in kWh per day: annual electricity cost = kWh/day × operating days/year × local price/kWh.
- If rated input is stated in kW: kW × operating hours gives a preliminary kWh estimate only when the assumed load is appropriate. Thermostatic cycling and standby operation require measured or model-specific data.
- If annual consumption is already stated in kWh/year, multiply it by the electricity price once; do not multiply it by operating hours again.
Compare both models using the same assumptions. Annual net savings should also account for differences in water, gas, maintenance and service costs where relevant. Simple payback = additional upfront cost ÷ positive annual net savings. If savings are zero or negative, this calculation does not produce a payback. Simple payback excludes financing and changes in future tariffs.
Check the exact ENERGY STAR model
For covered equipment categories, verify the exact manufacturer and model in the official product listings. A supplier logo or a photograph is insufficient. See ENERGY STAR commercial food service equipment and product finder. This article does not claim that every Zibo Cook model is certified.
Compare the delivered scope
Request the exact model, configuration, test conditions, measured consumption, required utilities, purchase and installation scope, warranty, service access and local operating costs. Do not assume a fixed equipment lifespan or guaranteed savings. A proposed 10-year comparison is a planning scenario, not a lifespan warranty.
Prepare a comparable quotation
Use the commercial kitchen equipment cost guide and commercial refrigeration buyer’s guide. Include your operating schedule, capacity, destination and utility requirements when you request a quote.
